WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) announced today that the federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership is accepting applications for funding for local police departments to purchase protective vests. The deadline to apply this year is 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Applications and information are available online at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bvpbasi/. "This federal grant program is an important funding source for local law enforcement agencies. A study conducted from 1985 to 1994 showed that bullet-resistant materials saved the lives of more than 2,000 officers nationwide," Congressman Kanjorski said.  "Last year, 16 communities in the 11th Congressional district received Bulletproof Vest grants, and I hope that even more law enforcement departments in my district will make use of this resource this year."

Congressman Kanjorski is sending information about the Bulletproof Vest Partnership to all law enforcement officials in the 11th Congressional District. Any law enforcement agencies that do not receive information or have additional questions can call (570) 825-2200.
