FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Gretchen M. Wintermantel June 8, 2005 202.225.6511 Kanjorski Announces Specialty Defense Awarded $8.9 Million Contract WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that Specialty Defense Systems in Dunmore was awarded a contract for $8.98 million to produce Warrior helmets and helmet parts for the U.S. Army. All of the work will be done locally. "At a time when violence in the Middle East is escalating, it is especially satisfying to me that one of the companies in my district is providing life-saving equipment for our brave men and women. I am pleased that the federal government recognizes the quality work that Specialty Defense produces. This is a substantial contract that will guarantee work for 140 local people," Congressman Kanjorski said. Sean Martin, Vice President of Business Development for Specialty's parent company, Armor Holdings, said the contract ensures production at the Dunmore facility until February 2006. "This is very positive news for us. Our role surrounding helmet manufacturing has grown significantly. We appreciate everything Congressman Kanjorski has done in supporting our program," Mr. Martin said. "We're hoping for additional awards for helmet products in the near future." Congressman Kanjorski toured Specialty Defense Systems in April 2003. The plant was founded in 1969. - 30 - |
