Kanjorski Announces $10,235 to Columbia County for Bulletproof Vests
Funding For Entire District Totals More Than $135,000

WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that five law enforcement agencies in Columbia County will receive more than $10,000 for bulletproof vests from the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

"The law enforcement officers in Northeastern Pennsylvania put their lives at risk every day for the people whom they serve. Our emergency personnel continually respond without hesitation, putting themselves in harm's way to save others. They are truly the heroes in our communities. I am pleased that the federal government is cognizant of the magnitude of their sacrifice and offers funding for these life-saving vests," Congressman Kanjorski said. "It is through the courage of our police and sheriff's departments that we can all sleep easier at night knowing that we are protected."

The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) provides money for up to 50 percent of the cost of the vests.

The following amounts will be distributed:
Berwick Borough -   $975
Columbia County - $7,378
Hemlock Township - $724
Locust Township - $698
Orange Township - $460
